The NYCAVMA Tiekert Educational Scholarship

Carvel Tiekert passed away on February 17th, 2024 at the age of 85. His impact on our organization, and others like ours, was immeasurable and he will be sorely missed. If you would like to donate to the NYCAVMA in memory of Carvel, please CLICK HERE.
$1500 Annual Award - 2025 Application Period is now CLOSED.
A generous donation from Carvel Tiekert, DVM, a longtime supporter of holistic medicine, has enabled NY CAVMA to establish The NYCAVMA Tiekert Educational Scholarship. The NY CAVMA will award a yearly $1500 scholarship to a veterinarian or veterinary student based on demonstrated need and interest in complementary medicine, to be used for a training class in complementary modalities.  Open to all practitioners (Student, current or retired) but preference will be given to a NYS practitioner or NYS license-eligible or a student in veterinary school who is intending to practice in NYS.

APPLICATION CRITERIA
Selection of recipients will be based on a maximum of 500-word essay demonstrating the applicant's desire to learn collaborative modalities with their need for financial support for these classes. Essays must be received by NYCAVMA by September 1st. Late applications will not be considered. The education committee will select the recipient by November 1st of each year. The selection will be made by the committee based on the applicants essay. Its selection is at the committee's sole discretion and is final.

AWARD USAGE TERMS
The $1500 award for this scholarship is for education in any alternative modality and MUST BE USED FOR TRAINING in complementary medicine.
NYCAVMA is very excited about the scholarship and looks forward to receiving applications. The 2026 application acceptance period will begin in January, 2026.
