​Who We Are

The New York Complementary & Alternative Veterinary Medical Association (NYCAVMA) is a group of licensed veterinarians who are dedicated to supporting and providing valid continuing education for the complementary veterinarian modalities, including such therapeutic modalities as acupuncture, chiropractic and osteopathic manipulations, herbal medicine, homeopathic medicine, homotoxicology, nutritional therapy, massage techniques, physical therapy, and other light and sound therapies.

We Are Dedicated To:

  •  working at the state level to ensure that quality instruction is offered and is equal to the certification level of instruction that is available through the various nationally and internationally recognized training organizations:  International Veterinary Acupuncture Society, Chi Institute of Chinese Medicine, China National Society of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine; American Veterinary Chiropractic Association, and the Academy of Veterinary Homeopathy.
  •  gaining a voice at the state level to provide support for the licensed veterinarians whose practice includes the use of complementary and alternative veterinary modalities.

The veterinary community mourns the loss of Dr. Ihor Basko, who passed away on February 14, 2026, just one day after celebrating his 79th birthday. Dr. Basko’s impact was felt by countless clients and their animals, whose lives were improved through his thoughtful and integrative care. His dedication to advancing veterinary medicine was rooted in service, compassion, and community.

Scholarship Available

$1500 Annual Award - Application Acceptance Begins January 2026. A generous donation from Carvel Tiekert, DVM, a longtime supporter of holistic medicine, has enabled NY CAVMA to establish The NYCAVMA Tiekert Educational Scholarship. The NY CAVMA will award a $1500 scholarship to a veterinarian or veterinary student based on demonstrated need and interest in complementary medicine, to be used for a training class in complementary modalities.  CLICK HERE to learn more.
